WATERLOO – Iowa crops are on course for record or near-record production. According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Sept. 11 estimate, Iowa corn production is forecast at 2.41 billion bushels, down slightly from the August forecast. That level is still 2 percent above 2014’s harvest and, if realized, would tie 2009 for the highest on record. The USDA is projecting Iowa’s soybean production at 526 million bushels, which is a 2 percent increase from the August estimate. If realized, that would be the largest soybean production on record, beating out 2005.
