#innovationIOWA Six Iowa Startups Approved for Funding

The Iowa Innovation Corporation Just Announced: The Board of Directors of the Iowa Economic Development Authority (IEDA) recently approved funding for the following Iowa startups in Iowa, based on the recommendation of the Technology Commercialization Committee (TCC).

1Comm Medical, Inc. Ankeny. A technology provider and distributor that was formed to help solve inefficiency  and sub-standard care in managing blood coagulation in patients. The company’s patent pending solution allows healthcare providers the opportunity to shift their patients to a remote monitoring solution. The board awarded the project a $300,000 loan through the Iowa Innovation Acceleration Propel Fund.

BirdDogHR, Des Moines A talent management solution including recruiting and applicant tracking, onboarding, performance management, learning management and succession planning. Previously, BirdDogHR partnered with a third party to offer the onboarding module of the solution. The company wants to accelerate its growth by purchasing the code or building from scratch the onboarding module and then significantly enhancing it to meet the needs of customers and prospects. The board awarded the project a $300,000 loan through the Iowa Innovation Acceleration Propel Fund.

BOGO Bowl, Des Moines Sells pet food, almost exclusively online, to customers across the country. The company plans to expand its market by producing a “single-serve” size as well as by placing these products into a new-to-the-industry retail category – the convenience store market. The board awarded the project a $25,000 Proof of Commercial Relevance grant.

ClinicNote, AmesStreamlines the reporting process between Speech-Language Pathologists (SLPs) and insurance companies. Their product is a medical note taking platform designed for SLPs that allows the aggregation of individual session notes into a progress report for health insurance companies. As they continue to grow, they plan to build out functionality for other therapy disciplines including physical therapy and occupational therapy. The board awarded the project a $25,000 Proof of Commercial Relevance grant.

Fastpath, Urbandale.  Technology that enables organizations to automate audit processes, resulting in compliance and cost savings in employee time and hard costs. This technology also allows companies to standardize audit and risk management processes across applications and organizations. The board awarded the project a $300,000 loan through the Iowa Innovation Acceleration Propel Fund for product enhancements and marketing support.

Infondrian, LLC, Iowa City  Provides an innovative software solution to automate treatment error detections and optimize clinical workflows in radiation oncology. The company has developed and demonstrated the utility of automated approaches for pre-treatment plan checks and automated treatment monitoring in the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics (UIHC). Infondrian is now developing an easy-to use, comprehensive and flexible system for automated error detection in radiation therapy. The board awarded the project a $25,000 Proof of Commercial Relevance grant.

#innovationIOWA Innovas Technologies wins Pappajohn venture competition

Innovas Technologies won the first-place prize of $25,000 in this year’s John Pappajohn Iowa Entrepreneurial Venture Competition. Innovas Technologies designs, manufactures and distributes shell and tube cleaning technology for heat exchangers. Fanstreamm claimed $15,000 for second place for its work to help sports teams and venues leverage data to expand business. Immortagen, which provides algorithms that help determine the risk of recurrence in medical cases, finished third and received $10,000. Read more

#innovationIOWA Tech Town Hall discusses future of Iowa innovation

Tech leaders, students and hopeful entrepreneurs gathered in Ames Thursday to take part in a town hall style meeting that was designed to encourage a discussion about the challenges facing the state’s technology industry.The event was organized by the Technology Association of Iowa and was held at the headquarters of the Ames-based software company Workiva. This was the seventh of 10 such town hall meetings that the Technology Association of Iowa has put on this year in different areas of the state, and according to Brian Waller, the association’s president, it was an important meeting. “This is by far, a really special community, if not the most special community, we’ve talked to,” Waller said.

CareDrop, Goquets to be featured at 1 Million Cups

This week, 1 Million Cups features CareDrop and Goquets at 9 a.m. Wednesday at Vault Coworking and Collaboration Space, 415 12th Ave. SE, Cedar Rapids. Both companies are currently participating in the Iowa Startup Accelerator’s 2015 cohort.

CareDrop provides on-demand support for non-professional caregivers through a mobile application. Goquets makes ordering flowers online easier for both consumers and local florists.
